Shopping Tip #1: Look for the most specific category. In other words, if you want to buy chitosan, don't look under "Ephedra-free Formulas", look for the chitosan category. The broad "Formula" categories contain products that have a bunch of ingredients and do not fit into more specific categories.

Tip #2: We list each product exactly the way the merchant lists it, with additional information put in parentheses after a dash. In the example below, the merchant's listing is "CoQ10." This tells you to look for the product under "C" at the merchant's website. If the merchant listed the product as, say, "Twinlab CoQ10" we would list exactly the way they do so you would know to look for the product under "T."

Tip #3: About the ratings: "Bargain" simply means that the product is inexpensive relative to other products in that category. It does not mean that I think the product is good or bad. Think of it as a mechanical price flag so you can scan down a long list of products and find the least expensive ones. The products that I like are rated either "Very Good" or "Excellent." I try to reserve the "excellent" rating for products that really stand out as state-of-the-art.

However, do not assume that I do not like a given product simply because it is not rated "very good" or "excellent" -- it is quite possible that I simply have not had time to evaluate that product yet. I also tend to refrain from commenting on some of the more esoteric bodybuilding products because they are often based on rather liberal extrapolation from research or mode-of-action data. It takes a LOT of work to try evaluate these kinds of products, and in the final analysis the most honest answer is often "I don't know.... try it and see how it works for you."

I plan to review the research on each of the product categories and give a broad overview of the scientific and historical evidence supporting their use. In addition, I plan to write reviews of the individual products and point out their strengths and shortcomings. I believe our vitamin price comparison is already a unique and valuable resource, and it will be fun to watch it evolve and grow to its full potential.
